Hey friends! Where have I been the last few days you ask? Well, it's not so much that I've been anywhere, but more like I've had this.
And when you have days and days of this
you just want to go to bed at 8. Which I did last night.
But I did get a 20 second video of Luke's new thing to do.
I call it the ultimate hidey hole. That's child size, after you pull everything out of the cabinet.
And if you don't live in Texas, you are really missing something. The weather today was BEAUTIFUL!! I ran out of coffee yesterday, so that warrented a Starbucks and donut run before hitting up the grocery store for more. While Luke and I were sitting and chowing down on our fried dough and sugar, I was trying to hold in the laughter while I watched a dude handle 6 kids. Six. Kids. But I really was impressed. He was in his early 30's or so, and you could tell he had been a really fun guy in college. Tall, attractive, built, and totally pulling of athletic wear. Can I just tell you how patient he was with those kids? I would have sighed heavily at least twice if I were in his shoes, but when all 4 little girls under the age of 7 came running out of the bathroom with soap on their hands because they couldn't turn on the water he just calmly and CHEERFULLY told them he would come and help. Amazing. Not that any of that had to do with the weather, I just don't want to forget such a show of patients when my ONE child gets Cheeto fingers on me AGAIN. Like today. Twice. But can you really have a bad day when there is sunlight streaming through the windows and good music blaring and then you get to spend adult time with a dear friend while shopping for the afternoon? Nope.

All Right Again
Today the sun was out. The temperature crept up the thermometer. Luke got to play outside. And I got to sit out there drinking coffee while he did (during Kayden's naptime of course!). All was right in the world. The only hiccup was he woke up breathing funny again. I can't say I'm suprised, with how crazy the weather's been it was only a matter of time. What I am suprised about is how much it hasn't been an issue this winter. Praise Jesus! I hope this is an indicator that he will definantly grow out of his asthma. Friday and Sunday the rain will probably be back, but the temps shouldn't dip to much. Bring it on spring!

Crazy day
So today turned out totally different than I thought it would. I thought Luke would get up when he normally does, 7:45, and he would go down for a nap when he normally does, 12:15, and would be up just in time for my 2:30 dentist appointment. Oh no. Not true.
It all started at 5:30. Luke chose this ungodly hour to start screaming, and Cody actually heard him first. He was off the bed before I even realized what was going on. He changed the boy, rocked him, and got him back to sleep. It was so sweet! Then at 7 he (Cody) got up, got ready for work, and left.
Kayden gets here about 7:45 and Luke is usually awoken by Daisy's super annoying YIP YIP YIP when they come to the door. Grrrrr. You would think by now she would know the routine, reconginze them through the window, and SHUT UP! But no. It's YIP YIP YIP every morning. Except this morning when she YIP YIP YIPed there was no cry coming from the back room. I shrugged and took Kayden back to bed with me thinking between the two of them someone would be crying withing 5 mintues. When I woke up at 10:00 I almost panicked. Obviously Kayden was still alive beside me, so I slid out of bed and ran down the hall convinced my baby had stopped breathing.
Praise Jesus he hadn't. He was still SLEEPING. Was this a miracle? I think so! I thanked my Lord that he was still alive and I got to be blessed with sleeping later than I have in months and months, and got in the shower. Of course right after I got out Luke woke up, but who cares! I was friggen 10:15!
The only problem that all of this posed was the total annihilation of our usual routine. And Momma likes her routine. I was greatly concerned that Luke would not get a nap before my dentist appointment and would consequently melt down once we got there. But in the mean time he got in lots of meddling.
He decided to pull out lots of kitchen things from the silverware drawer:
and that my coffee needed a couple of straws and that we needed to eat more blueberries:
and that the trash bags looked better on the floor.
I counted 29 when I folded them back up later. 29.
When the dentist appointment rolled around I loaded up the troops and headed out. We got there at 2:30, right on time. Except I then looked at my phone and realized my appointment was at 2, but it didn't matter because the appointment had never been put into the computer. Oh well. They were able to squeeze me in and 20 mintues later (yes, only 20 mintues!) we were on our way, complete with a new tooth and no melt downs. Thank you Jesus! I credit the Great I Am and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He didn't want it at lunch time but was more than obliged to eat it there in his stroller.
Then we went to the grocery store, and to Sonic for a happy hour celebratory Dr. Pepper, and then home where Luke was put to bed and promptly fell asleep.
See? Crazy day. Not what was expected, but good. And if you have made it to the end of this novel, I love you, who ever you are.

Baby Toys
Since Kayden is starting to stay awake longer these days, I figured it was time to start dragging out some of Luke's old infant toys. I thought one of the play gyms and the bumbo would give me the most bang for my buck. Well, not so much buck as living room space. While I was in the garage someone decided to raid my sewing basket.
Yes, that is a whole container of straight pins along with a rack of DVDs. *sigh* At least he didn't poke himself.
First I tried Kayden in the bumbo.
I don't think he's quiet ready for it. But Luke sure was into taking a trip down memory lane. Or maybe it looked similar to his potty.
Sorry his head is cut off, I was trying to get it quickly because he would stand up-sit down-stand up-sit down. Finally he got situated to watch a little TV.
After the bumbo fiasco we tried Kayden on the play gym. Success!
He is a very smiley and happy baby, so getting a picture of his gums (since he doesn't have any pearly whites yet) is MUCH easier than it ever was of Luke. His mother is lucky- she won't have photo albums of a very confused looking child.
The rest of the day was spent trying to do a few chores I've been putting off, like hang up all the coats that have piled up in the computer room, unpack my suitcase from this weekend, organized our pay stubs and bill stubs from so far this year, clean Luke's room, and do MORE laundry. I wanted to get something accomplished so that if it really is snowing in the morning I can sit on the couch with coffee, watch it, and not feel bad about being a lump. Plus tomorrow afternoon I have my *hopefully* last dentist appointment for my implanted tooth, and all this can be behind me. Eek! And I really hope it doesn't go like last time!

Quick Trip
Yesterday Luke and I took a quick trip over to Abilene. I didn't have Kayden, so we were able to leave about 10! I figured we would get there about 1:30, including a break for lunch, but it turned out to be more like 2 because SOMEONE slowed us down. First he didn't want to eat. Then all he wanted was my french fries. Then he wanted ketchup on them. Then I had to go to the bathroom. Then we had to get a Blizzard to go. Then when we got out to the car I realized I forgot to change his diaper. Then I made a fool of myself trying to change him on top of the suitcase while leaning over the car seat. It occured to me about half way through the change that I probably should have walked around to the other side of the car. Live and learn.
When we got to Shae's house, Luke got to play with Dakota for a little while before I made him lay down for a nap. And when I say made, I mean MADE. I have never in my life had to force that child to sleep, but I literally WRESTLED the boy down. Like one leg one top of his legs and my arm pinning down his top half. Classic mom stuff, right? He finally drifted off and Shae and I got to actually visit. Later on I had a nice dinner with Kendra, and we got to eat out on the patio of the resturant. THE PATIO. It was soooo pretty there. Well, weather wise it was so pretty. Anyone who's ever been to Abilene will all be in agreeance when I say the city itself is far from attractive. We had a good time catching up, but soon it was bed time. Luke and I headed back to Shae's house for his bed time, and then we visited some more. Loved it!
This morning we got up bright and early (oh my word Luke woke up at 6:30 but I wouldn't let him get up until 7:30. Whose child is this?) and we got ready for the whole reason for the trip....Dakota's birthday party! He turned 2 at Mr. Gatti's this morning, and let me tell you that place is toddler Vegas and Luke was completely star struck. He had the most GLORIOUS time running around to all the race car simulation games and "driving" the steering wheels and "shifting" and pushing allllll the buttons. I was just so dissapointed I forgot my camera back at home. That kid wore himself out. We headed back to DFW from Mr. Gatti's and we didn't even make it to the highway before he fell asleep and slept all the way to loop 820. To put it in better context, he didn't sleep a wink on the way there.
Tonight Cody took me on a fun date to Outback. Who wants to cook when you've just come home from an overnight trip? Oh, who am I kidding. Like I need an excuse to not cook. But we had fun none the less, and now it's good to be home. Shae's guest bed was EXTREMELY comfortable, but I do love my flannel sheets and a warm body next to me. ;)
So even though the weekend isn't over, it's already be an awsome one. I am so glad I got to spend time with my two different friends, and it was nice to get away from the house for a little while. You can't be taunted by a laundry load or a dusty shelf at someone else's house.

Obsession
Okay, so my new obsession is Chick-fil-A sauce. It's like honey mustard, but way better. And I love it. Love it to the point of licking the lid when I'm out of chicken. If someone made me choose between it and Dr. Pepper, DP would only barely win. Barely.
Just thought you should know.

It's a charmed life
First of all, yesterday I forgot to mention that Cody brought me something home from work.
Aren't they so pretty? My beloved hasn't brought home flowers in FOREVER and it made me feel so loved!
Then as I turned around from taking the picture of the roses my eyes fell upon this sight.
Isn't the life of a toddler just the best? When everything is okay when your belly is full (we just had eaten breakfast), your cartoons are on, and you have a front row seat. Don't you wish sometimes you could go back and just live in that innocence and naivety? I know that to expericence a deep and rich life you have to experience both great pain and great joy, but sometimes it would be so sweet to just go back to when things were simple. Someone feeds you, someone plays with you, someone loves you, someone kisses the boo boos, someone tucks you in at night.
Then I spent sometime this morning decorating some bobby pins.
Aren't the fun? I wore the flower leaf one to church tonight. That's pretty much the extent of all the interesting things I did today. Unless you want to hear about the ironing. Or the hissy fit Luke threw when I wouldn't let him outside without his shoes on. Or the one he threw when I picked him up from bible class because he couldn't play anymore. Or the one he threw when I took away some scissors he found somewhere.

Luke's Guide to Snacking
When you are eating a snack, it is imperative to keep your milk extra cold so find a place to insulate it. This is especially important when the experation date was yesterday.
Then, you find the rest of your cinnamon roll from breakfast. Take it into the bathroom and put it into your potty. Next take out the middle section from the potty, set it on the ground, and take a seat. Now your snack is safe until buisness time is over.
The end. (and don't worry, the potty had never been used. We just got it yesterday, remember?!)

Valentine's Day Recap
Yesterday didn't so much feel like Valentine's Day as much as just another day with a fancy dinner at the end. Luke and I went to church yesterday morning, just like any typical Sunday.
Doesn't he just look like he is ready to go off to kindergarten or walk down the isle with some other girl? *sniff sniff* My baby just looks so big in this picture to me.
I wasn't suprised that Cody didn't get me anything. I mean, if he didn't get me a CHRISTMAS present, why in the world would he get something for measly ole Valentine's Day? He's one of those fuddy duddies that hates hates hates Valentine's Day. That's why I took MYSELF to Starbucks before church. Yep, Momma got a treat.
But I have to say, dinner was really fun. He liked my dress, and as predicted, hated the tights. He told me they looked like sweatpants. A comment I didn't let him live down the whole night. Everyone else loved them, and of course I just HAD to mention what he said. ;) It's a good thing we are all good friends. We went with Dillon, Autumn, Justin, and Sarah to The Melting Pot. I had never been there before, and holy moly was it amazing. We ate so much it was gluttonous. I mean, when Cody and I got home I crawled into bed and watch the Olympics to try to forget the pain.
Today was a whole lot of nothing. This morning Luke and I went to Babies R Us and got him a little potty for when ever we start potty training. Boy that really scares me. There are a lot of things that he is just going to pick up naturally, but potty training could be a real struggle. I mean, there ARE kindergarteners who still have trouble with that. And I know that it will be months and months before all this buisness really starts, with his launguage issues it will be a long time before he can tell us he needs to potty, but at least it will be there for him to see everyday in the bathroom.
Then the rest of the day was where the whole lotta nothing came in. The only productive thing I've done in the last.....11 hours.......is empty the dishwasher. For the last few weeks I have had THE HARDEST time getting things done. You don't even want to know all the stuff I've been putting off. I just. can't. do. it. Just can't. I really need someone to come over for dinner/ the weekend/ to play/just something so that I will be FORCED to clean for someone. Does anyone know if the Queen of England is busy this weekend?

More snow
Obviously I can't leave this child alone while I potty and have the cabinet doors unlocked at the same time.
Yeeeeesh. Also in this eventful morning I let him go back outside to play. At first I didn't want to because the snow was so pretty, and there wasn't any more falling to cover up the mess we would make of it. But when I took some bills out to the mailbox and saw our bushes at the breaking point, ladened down with snow, I thought I would let him roam while I kicked the snow off. (using your hands hurts due to extreme cold, so yes I did act a fool high kicking snow off bushes). And by roam, I mean he wanted to go play in the street where the snow wasn't. *sigh* Why did I create all that laundry then? As I was trying to interest him in the snow while it lasted, I made one last attempt at building something. Not a snowman, since that was an obvious failure yesterday, but a heart that said Happy V-Day!
Eh. It could be worse.
Also, the people 4 houses down had a grand 'ole time in their yard, and when they went inside I snuck over and got Luke's picture in their fort.
Shhhhhh.

I got our footprints in the snow side-by-side. I love being able to compare how small he is next to me.
Then before my shower I finally broke out my fancy new hair products. I have a dear friend who's husband works for a high end hair product company, and they gave me some stuff to try out. After my shower I ran into a little bit of a problem. See, I don't ever use product on my hair. Ever. I used to put a little bit of mousse in when I didn't blow dry it, but I've even stopped doing that. So I was a little bit confused as to how many of these products to use at one time. Can I use Root Boost Spray and Thickening Cream Gel at the same time? Should I follow up with the Weightless Shine Spray? When do I put on the Firm Hold Hairspray? All of this seemed like a lot of stuff to put in my hair, especially since it was the VOLUMIZING collection. Won't all of it weigh it down and make it flat?
I put a call in to my patient friend to maybe give me insight, but she didn't get back to me in time. I was on my own. So I just tried the Root Boost Spray, and it wasn't bad! I could tell that I had product in my hair, but so far so good on not being weighed down or looking over oily.
Finally tonight we had a little birthday dinner at my grandmother's house for her ?th birthday, which was Wednesday. Luke was a little smoozer and suckered everyone into giving up their laps, dessert, and conversational time to play. When we got home, he decided to help feed Daisy.
