Seven Months

My beloved, you were seven months old yesterday!  Every month I think that it was a major month with major things happening, and this was no exception.  You had your first bout with Christmas..Santa, lots of family, and presents.  Well, presents as far as your brother would let you.  He had a fabulous time "helping" you unwrap most of them.

I'm not sure how much you weigh, and I'm not sure how tall you are, but you are still in your size 3 diapers and size 9 months clothes.  You even wear a few 12 month things.  This all will probably change again soon though- we've delved right into solid foods and you love it.  Every evening you down a whole jar of food.  So far I've given you green beans, carrots, pears, prunes, sweet potatoes, and squash and there isn't one thing you don't like.  I've even let you have some of my baked potato one night and some mashed avocado to try.  You do surprisingly well with finger foods all ready.  You also still get at least 5 rounds of breast milk a day.

(I believe my exact tweet was "Lord have mercy.  Whoever decided that babies should eat baby food clearly did not have a type-A personality.")

I have to say, it's been a little odd feeding you food this month.  For the past year and a half the only nutrients you have every received came straight from me.  Everything you need to sustain you I have been the one to provide, and while obviously the one jar of food isn't replacing me in the least, it does signal the beginning of the end.  All too soon you will forget all about nursing and only need me to physically something in front of you.  Makes me a little emotional if I think about it too long.

A week into this month you were sitting up like a pro, you only topple over every now and then (like today which gave you a nice bump on your forehead from a book.  Boo.)  You love to sit there watching the world go by as you chew on a toy.  I'd have to say chewing on things is your number one very most favorite thing to do.  Your little chin is so chapped from all the drool.  This month you also started reaching for people you are highly familiar with when they hold their hands out to you.  Nothing makes my day better than when I pick you up at the end of the day and you break out in to a huge grin and flap your little arms at me.

Unfortunately your reactive airway cough is back which totally interferes with your sleeping.  It's not terrible though, and according to my friends with babies, I'm so thankful for how well you sleep.  God knew what I needed when He gave me you.

You, Evan Elaine, are so loved.  I get more smitten with you every day, and Luke just lavishes you with attention.  He still can't wait for you to get bigger and be able to share things with you (so he says...I still have my doubts as to what reality will be!)  He already shares with you better than I ever did.  And when he doesn't want to share he is so gentle in redirecting you.  That brother of you also prays for you every night, that you would be safe.  This is something he came up with all on his own and it gets me every time.

One last thing- on Christmas eve I was painting my toes and I decided we needed matching.  Yep.  You got your first pedicure.  Thrills me to the core.
