It finally happened

I had something fun to post about.

I had something interesting to say.

Then bathtime happened.

10 mintues into bathtime something happened.

I cried out for Cody.

"911!  911!  We've got a situation in here!"

He comes down the hall and before he even gets to the bathroom he says...

"He pooped in the tub didn't he."

Yes.  It finally happened.  I knew this day would come.  I knew I could not be lucky enough to skip out on colic, trouble falling asleep, high maintenance-ness, AND a tub poop.

Alas.  My day came.  And I panicked.  What do you do?

Finally I yanked him out of the tub and stood him in the sink while Cody drained the tub.  The he told me to take him back and wipe  him down with wipee's.  Cody fished the.....stuff....out of the tub and squirted it down with bleach toilet cleaner.  Then I scrubbed the toilet cleaner with a clorox wipe and rinsed it down really well.

*shiver* Lets all hold hands and pray this is a one time only thing.

Again?!

Y'all, it snowed again today!  AGAIN!  I can't remember the last time it snowed three times all winter, much less in one month at the very beginning of winter.  It's been crazy!  I tried to get a picture of the falling snow, but it turns out that stuff doesn't photograph very well.

This morning we took Luke to get his 18 month pictures.  I wasn't going to get them, because frankly we couldn't really afford it, but Mom really wanted to get them done, so she took us!  I didn't think that we would get any really cute ones due to Luke's refusal to smile for the camera, BUT he did fantastic and there were some of the cutest little smiles to date!  Since I don't have a scanner I took a picture of my picture.  Lame, I know, but deal with it.

(close up of the cute rocking chair pose)

They had a little motorcycle to pose with and I just happened to have his leather jacket, wasn't that just perfect?!  I got him in a cute biker dude pose too.  Thanks Mom!

This afternoon I found  out my good friend Sara is having a boy!!  Yippee!  She's the one I made the blanket for, remember?  Well, I wove in the appropriate color yarn tonight, blue of course, and so I can finally show it off.

Here is the first one I made that just did not look right.  Luckily when I gave it to Luke he loved it and, while it hasn't replaced Puppy, he loves blankie.

See?  That is just not gift-quality.  But here is the next one I tried.

Much better.  Still not perfectly square, but MUCH better than the green one.  The blue ribbon is actually blue and green yarn twirled with turquoise silky thread.  I think I may make a hat out of the rest of it, after I finish the hat I'm working on now, which is a matching partner to Luke's scarf.  I like to make hat/scarf matchy matchy.  Dorky, I know.

Anther soap incident

You know, this afternoon I actually thought to myself "What am I  going to write about today?  I  didn't really do anything again today."  I mean, yes I went to church this morning.  Yes I went out to lunch afterwards.  Yes, after lunch Luke and I made a quickish Walmart trip.  But none of that is really worth writing about.

Until.

Until this afternoon when I tried to steal a few quiet minutes for myself by checking facebook.  Have I told you that when you have children you get punished for taking a few quiet mintues for yourself?  I had been there maybe three minutes when I smelled something good.  Hmmmm.  I don't know what could be smelling good, but I'm sure glad it does.  Beats spill milk from last week.

Then I got up to start dinner, and I spotted it.

The brand new bottle of baby wash I bought today.  That still had the tamper proof seal on it.  Under the screw-on lid.  Spilled everywhere.

I called for Daddy to come help me out of a pickle, because I knew that if I started to clean it up Luke would come over and step in it trying to figure out what he was doing.  So Cody came in and picked Sir Makes A Mess up lest he cause more trouble. And of course I had visions of the first soap incident and I asked Cody to smell his breath to check if it smelled of shae buttery sweetness, which means he swallowed some.

He laughed at me and said no.

After I got it all clean up, I put the full trash bag out the back door to wait for trash day on Tuesday.  And obviously Luke would want to run out the door pantsless into the freezing cold before I could shut the door.

About 15 seconds after I snapped the picture he got a bit hysterical because he realized stepping in snow causes really wet, cold socks and he was NOT a happy camper about it.

*sigh*  All because of three personal minutes for myself.

Homemade Christmas

Since (as predicted) I did NOTHING but sit on the couch and watch bad tv I thought it would be the prefect time to show you the presents I made this year.

Ashley's apron:

Parent's and in-law's monogram that I drew up:

Coasters for all of the grandparents: (rats.  I just realized I didn't take a picture of any of them before I gave them away, so this is the fabric and you can use your imagination.  Some were round, some were square, depended on what I had!)

Okay, that was only three different presents, but it covered most of my bases.  I made a coupon book for Cody, but I don't think you want to see that.  And Cody gave his brother a sweater and I ended up just giving Cody's sister the cookbook.  I wanted to make her an apron too, but I ran out of time and I figured since she was in college she wouldn't really want one any way.  Sorry Cory!  I'll make you one for graduation!  ;)

And here's what Luke's been making......

A big fat mess with his new game "Let's crawl into the bottom of the entertainment center and pull all of Momma's FRIENDS dvd's and decorations and stand on them."  and the tried-and-true game of "Let's pull out every single toy stored in the living room and run off."  Guess who ends up the loser at the end of the day?  That's right.  Me.

It's Christmas Ya'll!

Merry Christmas everybody!   We got up and Santa came and filled our stocking!

And then we opened presents:

Family shot!

Then Mom, Dad, and Ashley came over for brunch.  The cinnamon rolls tasted fine!  After brunch we went out to Cody's grandmother's house for Christmas with his family.  Unfortuantly I didn't have my camera, but there were 4 people clicking their's constantly so I'm pretty sure I can mooch off of them.  I did get a video of Luke with his new favorite toy when we got home thought.  He can't wait for the song to be finished, so he just pops it himself, and he thinks it's so funny!

Ya'll, we were blessed this year.  And Luke was blessed.  But Luke was so blessed my house is now more overrun with toys than I though possible.  What am I going to do when I try to find homes for them all?

Christmas Eve

Morning started off with sugar cookie making.  You know, for Santa.  Yeah right.  Unfortnantly Luke wouldn't have much to do with the cookie dough, or the flour, or rolling, or anything.

And tonight was Christmas at Nana's!   We had a nice steak dinner (don't worry, Luke stuck with the veggies)  and then we opened presents.  SOMEONE really enjoys ripping the paper, although he has yet to figure out all that work comes with a prize at the end.

Ashley got him a Bass Pro camo hat!

Mom and Dad got him (among other things) a Pottery Barn chair!

And the box it came in.

Sister got me a super soft scarf, earrings, and a mug that has Einstein's picture on it and it says "Coffe makes me smarter"  HA! (BTW, she LOVED  the apron and cookbook, I'll do a post in a couple of days of all the things I made this year)

Then we came home and wrote Satna a letter:

Left him milk and cookies:

Then read A Night Before Christmas:

The tradition (for the second year in a row, if that can be called a tradition) has been seen, so now all we can do is see if Santa makes a stop here!

(also, it has been SNOWING all day today!  This afternoon it almost looked like a blizzard the way it was coming down so hard and swirling in the wind.  Here is our patio when we got home tonight.)

It took me a minute to realize that was our garden hose!

Fancy dinner

Tonight we went to Macaroni Grill for dinner.  Not the fanciest gig in town, but definintely a place that is kid-friendly yet it could be totally appropiate to wear a suit and tie.  Because Luke sure did!

I spent the day cleaning and getting ready for Christmas morning brunch at our house.....aka- baking!  Yikes!  It took me most of the day to make Pioneer Woman's famous cinnamon rolls.  The picture in the book looks like this:

Yet mine ended up looking like this:

Maybe they will still taste okay.  I'm thinking I might have miscounted when adding the 8 cups of flour and only put in 7?  Who knows.

Tonight after our "fancy" dinner we went behind the restaurant to take Luke's picture in front of the gigantic Christmas tree.  Have you ever tried to take a 17 month old's picture while there are a million people around and an magical elevator that goes up and down?  We tried and tried.  Mom sang songs.  Ashley jumped up and down.  I made high pitch noises.  Nope.  Not one smile.  Here's the best that we got.

And of course I had to jump in there with my more than handsome boy.

As we were leaving we got tons of compliments about how cute he was, then he got mad that I wouldn't let him play in the bushes and  he threw a fit on the floor, screaming and rolling around.  Not so cute.

Ice show!

First, the promised pictures from yesterday's Christmas at Grandmother's:

What a photo hog.

See?  He's actuallly tearing the paper some!

Grandmother got a Snuggie, so Ashley thought she would get a picture and send it in and maybe get on the commercial.  Who doesn't want to be in a Snuggie commercial?

All of the grandkids/grand-spouses/great-grandkids/and one girlfriend.

And now for today.  I woke up today and I did NOT feel good.  My head hurt and my whole body felt like it had been beaten with a bat.  But, I had no sore throat, not tummy ache, no runny nose, no cough.  Weird huh?   Even though it pained me to move, I still was a good mommy and took care of my kid.  Okay.  I rested on the couch praying for nap time while he pulled out everything from my entertainment center and stood on it.  That's his new game.  But I made sure he was safe and his belly was full, so there.

Then about 11:30 Cody's BFF, Dillon, called and said  he got us tickets to go to the ice show with him and his girl friend!  What?!  I've always wanted to go to that, so I napped while Sir Messy napped and I doped up on Advil  and braved the cold.  It was the most fun in -2 degrees I've ever had!  Look!

Autumn, Dillon, Cody, and me, about to go in (everyone has to wear these super cool coats)(and can you tell I was the only one smart enough to wear a hat and scarf? Plus I had on two shirts and a sweater.)

I'm "smashed"  against the ice! (it's in quotes because I'm not actually touching the ice.  That would be cold.)

The theme was "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas"

Then as you left there was an awesome nativity scene.  You haven't seen anything until you see an ice baby Jesus.

Thanks D, it was a lot of fun!

Santa's second round

Tonight was Santa's second round of visitation!  But first, let's start with last night....

We got up yesterday morning and got right in the car.  We drove the whole 4 hours WITHOUT stopping.  Now, that does sound crazy BUT..... Luke was actually doing good and we hated to stop and jinx it.  When we are in the car for longer than an hour or so he get really really restless and screamy.  Yes, I said screamy.  It's a word, okay?  But this particular morning he was not screamy so we just busted it to get home.  I'm glad he did good, because Momma didn't do so great.

I was so hungry when we got home I was a force to be reckoned with.

When Momma growls, feed her.

So we got home, had lunch, got Luke down for his nap, and then I had to get ready for rehersal at 4 and make sandwiches for the soup/sandwich dinner after the service.  Rehersal went really well, and our performance went even better!  (FYI- I sang in the chours at the candle light service at church last night)

By the time we got home I was EXHAUSTED, and I literally fell into bed after I put The Boy down.

Today was filled with ironing and baking.  I got fussed at this morning for not having got it sooner, so I spent pretty much the whole day catching up.  Then we ran to the store for the ingrediants to make cranberry chutney and another blackberry cobbler.  Yes, it was that good.  And this time we have left overs!  My tounge rejoices and my pants groan in defeat.

And finally......Santa's second round came tonight.  We went over to Grandmother's house (my other grandmother lives about 4 minutes away from us) and all of my Dad's side of the family got together for dinner and gift exchange.  Well, all but one cousin and his wife.   Luke actually got into tearing the paper this time!  You know, when he could be pried  away from playing down the hall with the cabinets.

At this point you maybe wondering where the pictures are.  Oh, there are pictures all right, just not on my camera.  It's called Momma-was-to-lazy-to walk-down-the-hall-to-get-her-own-camera and also called I-will-mooch-off-of-Mom(Nana)-tomorrow.  Since I only forsee laundry, the never ending laundry, on my list of things to do tomorrow, I'll just post pictures then to save you from boring sentences about how I hate laundry.  Because I really hate laundry.  Really.

Santa's 1st round

Today was Santa's first round of visition for our little family.  We had to travel to Colorado City to make sure we didn't miss him.

There were presents to unwrap:

Sweets to steal (this was SUPPOSED to be part of Papa's stocking):

Outdoors to conquer:

And a car to practice driving home:

All in all it was a great day!  We played games and sat around and visited and ate, ate, ATE!!!  The women folks (read- Mom and Aunt Patty) had decided to have a Mexican food feast for our Christmas dinner.  They thought if we had turkey it would be the exact same meal we had at Thanksgiving, so Mexican it was.  Except I don't like Mexican.  ;(  My cousin saved the day though, by making a good salad  with pinto beans, Fritos, cheese, tomatos and lettuce.  Mmmmmm.  I had it for dinner too.

As we sat down to eat the unconvintional holiday meal, Aunt Patty declared, "Merry Christmas everyone!  Wait.......I guess I should say  Bueno Jesusmas!"  (pronounced Hey-SUS-mas)

Oh my goodness we haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

Then someone gently reminded her that Merry Christmas in Spanish is Feliz Navidad.  And that Bueno Jesusmas would really mean Good Jesus-mas.  *sigh* I still smile to think about it.

Oh, and my blackberry cobbler was a HUGE hit!  I thought between the two chocolate pies, two coconut pies, fudge, peanut butter cookies, chocolate covered preztles, haystacks, and cinnoman glass it would get lost in the shuffle and just get nibbled on.  Ya'll, it is GONE.  (and Mandy- it's the recipe with only 5 ingrediants.  I accidentally put in an extra 1/4 cup of sugar, and an extra cup of blackberries)  I'm a little sad I won't have any to take home!

Ho Ho Ho!

That's right, tonight we went and visited Santa!  My sister came home today so I waited until she was ready and we drove over to Bass Pro Shop to visit the awesome Santa they have there.  We got there about 3:30, and guess what?  No Santa until 5.  Seriously?  What's the point of being a stay at home mom if you can't beat the rush by doing things when all the suckers have to work?

Just kidding.

Kind of.

I didn't want to go all the way home just to come back (it's a good 20 minute drive over to Grapevine.  Quite a journey.), so we went over to the mall to kill some time.  I enjoyed myself by singing Jingle Bells loundly slightly off key to embarrass Ashely.  It was awesome.

When we got back to Bass Pro at 4:50 there was already a line 30 people deep.  *sigh*  Again.  What is the point.  But we stood in line and finally got our turn. (excuse the red eyes, I'm too tired right now to go back and touch them up.  And also Ashley cut the reindeer out of the picture, he's off to the right side.  No biggie, the free one from the store has it in there.) (also, I was kind of hoping I would get the crazy screaming hysterical picture.  Except my kid has no stranger danger and could care less who holds him.)

Then we walked around the store and took pictures of Luke in various locations.  Why?  Because I can.

Also, I could not keep that boy off the ATV's.

Then on the way home I stopped at the store and got things to make a salad for dinner, due to a very heavy breakfast and lunch.  And I got the fixings to make Pioneer Woman's blackberry cobbler tomorrow.   mmmmmmmm......I love me some blackberry cobbler.
