I kicked The Boy out in the cold

Just kidding.  You'll see at the end.  First I need to show you a promised picture from yesterday.

I love Luke's new mirror!  I've picked really nice furniture for him so that one day when he grows up and leaves me, I will at least be left with nice furniture in my "guest room".  If I can get a boy to take care of his furniture.

Now we come to this morning.  I decided he was bordering too close to Mullet-ville, so I gave La Lad a hair cut.  I've been putting it off and putting it off, but with the upcoming holiday I thought it would be best to bite the bullet.  That way if I screwed up and felt the need for professional intervention, then I would have plenty of time.  Ta da!

It's amazing what lunch on the coffee table and Barney on the tube can get ya.  I think it's okay, not as good as the last cut I gave him.  But not bad enough to pay $20 to get it fixed.  Saving the buck was the whole point.

And finally we come to this evening.  We were about to leave to do some errands before going to church and  I went out to get the mail.  I'm not sure why I didn't close the wooden door behind me, but the glass door always latches so I usually let Luke stand at the glass and bang/shout to all the neighbors.  This was the senario today, and after getting the mail I checked an email real fast.  That's when I heard crying.  It was odd crying, not like "I'm hurt" and not like "I'm frustrated" so I let him cry for a minute, thinking he would work it out.  When he didn't, I went to investigate.  I assumed the crying was coming from his room.  Nope.  "Hello?  Luke?  Where are you?"  I tried my room.  Nope.  The bathroom?  Nope.  Then I turned around and this is what I saw.

One little pitiful crocodial tear running down, upset because he couldn't get back in.  All I could do was bust out laughing, grab the camera, and thank my sweet Father in heaven for making sure he stayed on the poarch.  I promise next time I don't shut the door I will double check to see if the glass latched.

It's cold. Again.

So yesterday it was beautiful.  It was in the lower 70's, flip flops on, no jackets, wonderful.  Luke and I went to visit my friend Niki and baby Riley yesterday morning, and he had a fun time with their chocolate lab teenage dog.  I say teenage because she's not really a puppy anymore, but still to hyper to be a full adult.  Your basic teen.  At one point he even crawled in Sadie's big kennel, at which point I closed it and grabed Niki's camera sitting on the coffee table.  When she up loads the picture and sends it to me, I'll share.

The rest of the day was spent at home doing laundry, cooking dinner, and sanding/painting  a mirror.  My grandmother bought L a mirror for his Christmas present (per my request) because I took the one out of his room and put it over my bed.  It didn't match the style of the room anyway.  The new mirror looks fabulous!  If I remember tomorrow I'll get a picture of it and share.  He's just been asleep for 2 1/2 hours now, and with as touchy as sleep has been lately I'm not about to flip on the light, snap a picture, and bolt.

Today was a whole different story.  I got up and took out the trash and it was COLD.  I mean COLD.  I was so bummed that the temp had dropped again.  How long until spring?

Tonight I had dinner with a couple of girl friends and I had to wear a jacket and a scarf and actual shoes!  Boo.  But we had a great dinner.  It was just the three of us and a five week old baby who slept through the whole thing.  There was no 1 year old or two 2 year olds to interupt us, so we got LOTS and LOTS of talking in!  Lukie was with just his Papa this evening, since Mom had a prior engagement, and I know he enjoyed his "boys night".  ;)  It's a good thing I asked them to babysit and didn't count on Cody doing it, because it turned out he had to work late.  Poor guy!

Who needs sleep?

Apparently not my kid.  When I last left you on Saturday night he was laying quietly in bed.  That lasted all of 10 minutes when the fact that he slept until 5:30 in the afternoon haunted me and he wouldn't go to bed until midnight.  So I figured Sunday after church he would take a fantastic nap.

Wrong.

He slept for maybe 30 minutes.  Do you realize how much my child sleeps normally?  We're talking 12 hours at night and 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon.  Getting a fraction of his normal sleep was sure to spell success at the Chirstmas party we went to Sunday night.

Once again, he suprised me!  We got there about 5:45 and stayed until 8:15.  Luke ran his heart out with his little friends, and participated in what I like to call Baby Buffet 2009.  All the moms set out a plate of food for their kid for dinner, but did each kid stick to his or her own plate?  Heck no!  Why eat the apple on my plate when Claire's apple looks better?  So what ended up happening was all the babes went back to running around and would just graze off of whatever was closest.  At one point I witnessed Luke cramming someone's sandwich top into his mouth, and then spit it out back on to the plate and run off.  Yum.

So then when we got home I was SURE he would sleep hard all night long.  I was right, at least until midnight hit.  Then he decided it was party time until 4:30.  I want to shudder at the memory.  Finally, after rocking, changing the diaper, rocking, getting a drink of milk, rocking, laying down together in the guest room, rocking, and more rocking, I was done with it all and walked away.  He cried for 45 minutes until he finally fell asleep.

Lets all say a little prayer I get my baby back tonight.  Not this little boy who must have been swapped out when I wasn't looking at the mall.

Someone's been naughty

I think Santa may need to skip our house this year.  Let me tell you what has happened in the last 24 hours.

Last night:
I went to take dinner to Niki.  I had been there for about 20 mintues when I get a phone call.  Cody breaks this news to me...."So, I was playing my game just now, and I look over at Luke and he has the bottle of dish soap from the kitchen sink.  I look just in time to see him take a big swig from it before I could grab it away.  Then he proceeded to throw everything up all over Daisy, who was standing right in front of him.  I just finished giving her a bath."   He had climbed up on the ottomans under the kitchen window and sink and gotten ahold of the soap bottle.  At least I wasn't home to deal with the puke.  But on the other hand, the whole incident probably wouldn't have happened in the first place because I WATCH HIM.

This morning:  Exibit A

He constructed a stable bridge out of his two push toys to stand on to reach the fuzz from my "craft station" (aka-the end of the dining room table where I've been making my Christmas  presents).

A few minutes later this morning:
He begged and begged for some of my breakfast, so when I finally gave in and gave him a blueberry, he promptly threw it on the floor for Daisy.  I would have liked to eat that.

This afternoon:
He didn't like the direction we were headed in the food court at the mall, so he threw himself  down on the floor in the middle of everyone and rolled around before I could scoop him up.

Tonight:
Didn't want to eat his dinner, only wanted to push the umbrella stroller around the house.

Later tonight:
Santa drove down the street!  Okay, so this isn't something naughty that he's done, but it was fun!  Every year the fire department has a Santa on top of a fire truck and they go up and down each street with the sirens and lights going.  Santa waves and says hello to the people who come out of their houses and throws candy for the kids.  I love it when Santa comes down the street, even before I had Luke.  This was the best picture I got, my  battery was  low in my camera.

Exibit B (waiting) (can you see the scarf I finished knitting for him? I love it!)

Read before you judge

Here's what welcomed me this morning: (it's only a mintue long, and Daisy's end is the best part)

1. Do you  hear the dog in the background?  Daisy does that EVERY TIME he cries.  So. Annoying.  It's one of the main reasons I give in sometimes and don't want to deal with the melt down.

2.  Now before you write me off as a terrible mother who just lets her child  cry while filming it....let me tell you why he's crying.  We both had the exact same brown sugar cinnamon  toast for breakfast.  I sat at the table with mine and my coffee, he sat in his chair with his and his milk.  Then he decides he wants my toast.  Why?  I don't know.  It was the SAME.  He watched me get both pieces out of the bag.  But he wanted mine.  Not his.  So he threw this fit.  Which made the dog howl.  Which made me want to howl.

So you know what I did as soon as I shut the camera off?  I took his little pieces of toast off his tray and put it on my plate.  Then I took a sip of coffee, ate another bite of MY toast, then gave him back a piece of HIS toast.  Voila.  He downed it like it was candy.

He's a sneaker

So this morning I had Sesame Street on in the back ground while Luke played and I piddled around online.  Then I glance up and he's here.....

I had no idea he would be intrested enough in the show to stop playing, crawl up on the couch, and seat himself in such a way to watch it.  Nice.  It's better than what he tried to do later in the afternoon, which was to crawl up on the coffee table and watch Ellen from there.

Confession.  For lunch there is a really good chance that I only made myself half of a sandwich instead of a whole sandwich so that I would have more room in my belly for all of the cookies I brought home last night.  And I made extra coffee to go with them.  But in my defense, if I didn't eat them all while Cody was at work then he would have come home and eaten them all and I would have gotten none.  There.  Justified.

Then something unexpected happened after nap time.  I was drawing something up at the dining room table, with coffee and my said plate of cookies, when out of the corner of my eye I spy Luke trying to be sneaky.  I look over and his eyes are staring at me, but his hand  is at the plate with one of my cookies.  *sigh*  Really?  You too?  Since he pulled down a really crumbly peanut butter cookie that had a Kiss in the middle of it, and I wasn't in the mood to deal with a melt down, I let him have it in his high chair.  20 mintues later I look up from my drawing and this is what I see.

It almost looks like he's bleeding chocolate.  Or sneezed chocolate.  Or just really enjoyed that Kiss.

Ohhhhh, what happened to the days my baby only ate from a Dr. Brown?

Starts grim but ends sweet

Wearing a robe, standing over a hot iron with a baby strapped to my side was how I started my day.  Not what you thought this fabulous, high fashion, sophisticated woman would be doing, eh?  hahaha.  Just kidding.  I'm not really high fashion.  Anyway, the perk to all of this was Luke slept in until 9, which meant Momma got to sleep in until 9.  Yee haw!

I wasn't too thrilled with doing more ironing and two loads of laundry, but I'm the type of person who likes to bite the bullet and get the blec stuff done first, so that I can be able to spend the rest of my day doing just as I please.  So that's what I did.

And lately I've really enjoyed having Luke strapped to my side.  I've gotten more use out of my sling in the last month than I have in the first 16 months that he has been alive.  Maybe I'll get Cody to take a picture of us using the sling one day.  I've strapped him to my side and to my back, and each time I feel so granola that I'm waiting for someone to buy me Birkenstocks.

Please don't buy me Birkenstocks.

Tonight was the Ladies Fellowship Christmas Dinner and Cookie Swap.  That's why I needed to make all of those cookies!  Tada!  Today I sat on the couch (after finishing the ironing and laundry of course) and watch a couple of old episodes of Bones and ate who knows how many meringues.  And now I've got a dozen other cookies to add to that tomorrow.  Plus, have you checked out Lucy's holiday treats? Holy moly.  I just may have to be totally lame this year and have a New Year's resolution to lose weight.  I've made a resolution in the past to NEVER make that resolution.....but this might be the year to break it.  I hear 26 is a perilous time for your metabolism.

Way too busy

The last two days have been way to busy than it should be for someone who's only job is to raise a child.  Yesterday we started looking like this before church.....

And ended up running around like a mad woman at midnight trying to get my house in order for today.  I'll explain.  Church was from 9:00 to 12:00, then lunch with my parents till 1:30, then a baby shower from 2:00 to 4:00, then LTC chorus (I'm helping to direct it this year) from 4:00 to 5:00.  When I got home I started picking up the disaster that was my house, put Luke to bed, cleaned more, went to Walmart at 9 and got a yummy-but-awful-for-your-artries What-a-burger on the way home.  I didn't finish getting things straightened until midnight.  Grandmother was coming over this morning to watch Luke and I didn't want to be embarrassed by the state of my house.

So then today rolls around.  I had an appointment with the oral surgeon this morning to get my post traded out- I'm all ready for my new tooth!  I just need to make an appointment with my regular dentist (he's the one to make the tooth and fit it).  The only problem is the dr had to snap in this cover over it so that no food or anything could get trapped in the post before the new tooth gets put in there, and it's bright white.  Now I look like Mr. Wilson in Dennis the Menace, when Dennis replaces Mr. Wilson's two front teeth with chicklets.  Now, my tooth isn't up front like that, but it is forward enough that you can is it when I smile/laugh/talk too much.  :(  I am soooo embarrassed I might hide out for the next month until it's fixed.  Is the Lord teaching me not to be vain?  I think so.

(And if you're new and wondering what all this is about, I have had a baby tooth that never fell out and never had an adult replacement tooth, so back in September I finally had to have it pulled due to a cavity and surgery to have a steel rod implanted in my gum to support a new fake tooth.  Awesome huh?   Blec.)

Then I came home and got Luke and went to the grocery store for cookie supplies.  More on why I'm making cookies tomorrow.  I came home and made about 100 lemon peel meringues.  Mmmmm.  Then we had lunch and Luke went down for his nap.  Finally I started on the ironing and I ironed from 2:00 to 6:00.  FOUR HOURS.  And I still have 5 more shirts.  This is all Cody's work clothes, he's finally chosen to save money and not take them to the dry cleaners.  But heaven help me if I have to do this every week.  I don't think I'll be able to handle it.

All of this finally leads up to tonight.

Tonight was another going away party for a family at church that's in our group.  So sad.  I enjoyed the fellowship and panini's that we made, but I hate that we had to have another going away party.  Why can't we all just be a people that stays put?!  I hope I didn't just jinx anything.

Lost

First of all, do you like my new name?  I think this is what I'm going to go with for forever.  They shouldn't make you pick your name right off the bat when you get a blogger account, you don't know what direction the blog will go in!  Well, at least I didn't.  At first I thought it was going to be about our family, but that didn't really happen.  Then I thought it was more about me being Luke's mom, but I really do try not to talk about him 100%, for all those non-mom's out there that don't really care about other people's kids.

Plus he's not 100% of my life.

Only about 99%.

Just kidding.

So I've finally gone with This Texas Momma because I feel like it best describes in a couple of words who I am and what I write about.  ME!  And as I've written in my updated profile, there is a personal meaning to it.  Now if I could only figure out how to change the title on other people's blogs when they have me listed on their blog roll call.

Now back to the title of this post.  I lost something today.  :(  I took Luke to dinner at this cute little bakery (I've cooked two really good meals in a row, I was totally tapped out.) and when we left I bundled us back up to get in the car.  I KNOW I put my scarf on before we left there.  Then I stopped at Khol's to see if they had the same holiday frames as last year, only with 2009 on it (which they didn't.  Figures.).  On my way home I realized I didn't have on my scarf.  Where did it go?  I do NOT remember taking it off in Khol's.  It was double-threaded around my neck, so there's no way it just "fell off", but where it is remains a mystery.  I even called them.  Why I'm really upset is because it was one of the very first scarfs that I ever knitted, and it made a matching hat for it.  Now my hat is friendless.  *so sad*

Tonight I was a sewing machine.

*jab jab* Get it?!

Sorry about that.  But I really was productive.  I am thisclose to finishing my secret Christmas project, and I made a present for a baby shower tomorrow all after Sir Turkey went to bed.

Won't that be so cute with a little pair of jeans?  The girl had a c-section a week and a half ago, and the didnt' find out the sex of the baby until he was born.  I don't think I could ever do that.  And don't worry, I did put money in on the hostess gift, so I don't look like a fool with just a little onesie.  Even if it is the cutest thing ever and I want my baby to shrink just so I can put it on him.  Maybe I'll make him one on a plain white shirt......

A new level

*sigh*  It has begun.  He's learned to climb.  He's learned to push buttons.  And now he's learned to put the two together.  Which leaves me with zippo time to get ANYTHING accomplished.  It took me the entire day to sew 6 straight lines on the sewing machine.  No more checking facebook every few mintues, no more quick craft projects, no more nuthan. (That's pronounced NU-than)  It's 10:00 and all I want to do is bury my head in my arm right here on the table and call it a night.  Kind of like I did last night.  At 9:30.

I found my darling dear today in a perilous situation.  I was trying to sew one of the said straight lines, and I could see out of the corner of my eye that Luke was pushing the rocking chair over to the tv.  I didn't think much of it until I looked up and he was STANDING in the chair.  How did he get up on that thing while it was rocking?  He saw me glance over at him and he grinned a sly grin.  The kid was trying to reach the remotes I had previously placed out of reach!  That little Turkey.  I jumped up, realizing how dangerous it was for him to be standing in a rocking chair, and then I'M the one who get screamed at.  The nerve of that child!  It's a good thing he's so darn cute and I love him more than he's worth because today I deduced that if he were anyone else's child he would irritate the living poop out of me and I would wonder why people have kids.  But he is mine, and I do love him so much my heart bursts, so he only irritates the living growl out of me.
